Submitted a minor update for the logic grids app yesterday.  A lot of people have been asking for hints.  While I’m not on board with the hints idea, I did build out the ‘check answers’ functionality a bit.  It previously just told you if your answer was totally correct – it really was only concerned with the puzzle as a whole.  If you checked when you were halfway done, it would basically just tell you that you hadn’t finished the puzzle.  This seemed to confuse a lot of people.

So now, or at least once this update goes through, it will still tell you that you haven’t finished the puzzle yet, but will then ask if you want to check your answers so far.  Users who don’t want hints shouldn’t be negatively impacted by this – as they can just not check their answers.  I guess it will require them to have more will power, but, this will build character.  But for users who are stuck or want some sort of hints – they can now see if each and every answer they put into the grid is correct.

It still won’t clear out wrong answers for you, or put in any correct answers to help you out.  Those types of options just aren’t something I’m super keen on.  It’s like in the most recent Mario games where if you die like five times in a row it asks you if you just want it to beat the level for you.  That whole idea seems crazy to me.

I also updated a clue on the A Long Time Ago puzzle.  I remember solving the puzzle while testing, and my wife got the right answer, too.  But when I tried it the other day – I couldn’t do it.  So… not sure if the puzzle really needed an additional hint, or if I’m just getting worse and worse at logic grid puzzles.
